Running vs. Walking

What is your goal?  Do you like to walk but hate to run? Are you a marathon or triathalon runner?  Are you young or old?  First define which and why you like one better than the other.

Walking is extremely beneficial for you and your overall health. It is an excercise that creates less stress on the body which therefore creates less free radicals (free radicals are what the antioxidants helps eliminate) It is better on your joints when you have less impact on a hard surface. You still are woking on your cardio and if you swing your arms side to side and work on your stride you also are increasing range of motion. Even though I am young and love to run, I also know that their are huge benefits of walking and sometimes prefer to walk.  The comment I hear about walking is that walking doesnt  "feel" like a good work out.  I explain that walking is a great lifestyle habit.  No matter what, movement is good for us. God created us to Move!

Running is extremely great in training your heart and your lungs.  You hit a point in your run when endorphines kick in and you get that 'runners high".  That is the feeling of a "great workout" or maybe the fatique in your muscles is what makes it a great workout.  Running a 5k or 10K  pushes your body to improve in areas of  your fitness.  There fore you see more immediate results of physical change. With running there is caution on the longterm effect of the joints.  Unless you are trainning for track meets, marathons, triathalons or any other type of fitness meets than there is  better research of reasons to walk  for a lifestyle committment then to run.
